Sewing/Sowing for Life

Zambia
Zambia
Dear Friends and Family,
I have decided to embark on an incredible journey to Zambia with the Sew Powerful ministry to serve junior high and high school girls. This trip will be an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young girls and help them to reach their potential. Zambia is a beautiful country with a rich cultural heritage, and I am looking forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the country and its people through this experience. During my stay, I will be working with the girls in various development initiatives with the Sew Powerful Ministry. For the last year I have been serving this ministry state side as the leader of the Dallas Chapter where we gather volunteers to make handbags that are sent to Zambia and filled with reusable feminine pads and the girls are educated in health class so they don't miss school. On a personal note I believe representation matters. The girls need to see and know that someone who looks like them cares about their plight. My connection is that as a seamstress I will be able to relate to the mothers and grandmothers who are the ones Sew Powerful has trained to sew the feminine pads for their daughter and granddaughters.
I am humbled and excited to have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of these young girls, and I am grateful for the support of my family and friends who have encouraged me to take this journey. I look forward to sharing my experiences with you upon my return.
